The hotel was in a lovely quiet village, with ample parking. The horse theme of the Inn was fun and well presented..it put a smile on your face, and was good to see. The room was very good...plenty of room, well presented with a good shower and huge TV. A couple of things that could be better would be a smaller kettle ( too big to fill in the sink) and the curtains could have closed better, but these are minor issues. What made this place pop where the staff...friendly, helpful and actually looked like they enjoyed their jobs. Whilst this should be standard in any hospitality setting, its can be rare to find these find in this day and age. As a trained hospitality professional who made a career in international sports sales, I feel qualified to mention these things. Food was excellent...interesting menu with a mixture of pub classic and some imaginative combos. All was well presented and tasty..the mackerel pate was the best I've eaten, and the pork 3 ways was well cooked and presented, with a great blend of flavours and textures. A good selection of beers and wine added to the experience. The outside garden and sitting areas could do with a bit of a tidy up, and the flower boxes would look good with something in them, but as we didn't use the outside area, it didn't impact on our visit. Breakfast was plentiful, with the full Yorkshire Breakfast breakfast enough to keep anyone going for the rest of the day. Would I stay again ?. Absolutely...a winning combo of nice room, lovely food and great staff was all anyone could ask for.

The room was delightful and quirky. As well as an on suite shower room there was a bath in the bedroom! The complimentary toiletries were of high quality and as well as a coffee maker and all the hot drink ingredients there was water and orange juice in the fridge and curley wurleys and sweets. The restaurant food was exceptional and staying for 4 nights we really enjoyed trying many of the different dishes. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the presence of the owners around the premises gave a real feeling that they truly wanted their guests to have the best experience possible. The continental breakfast we has due to an early start one day was amazing delivered the previous night in a huge picnic hamper but with ice packs to keep the milk and juice cold. The restaurant breakfast selection included a Yorkshire breakfast and the most delicious natural smoked haddock with poached eggs with some of the deepest orange yolks I have ever seen and my grandparents kept chickens so I know a good fresh egg well!

The Black Horse Inn is family run and has a lovely atmosphere. We arrived towards the end of a very busy service of Sunday Lunch but received a warm welcome and were shown to our room. There is a horse racing theme to the rooms which was fun. The room was charming and very comfy with high class projects and a welcome curly-wurly! Dinner was exceptional. We both had roasts which were so tasty and the beef was some of the best I've ever eaten. Breakfast was very tasty and with plenty of choice. All the staff are very friendly and you are made to feel both important to them as a guest and almost greeted as an old friend. There is a lovely village to stroll round and it would be a very good centre to explore this part of the world with some super countryside and interesting towns. The Black Horse is exceptional--I so look forward to a return visit.

Fantastic country pub and restaurant, the positive reviews I'd read prior to booking turned out to be fully justified. Very friendly welcome, nice bar, room (Desert Orchid) was clean, very comfortable bed with separate bath, large tv and well thought out extras with the drinks facilities. Food exceptional, dinner choices aplenty and top notch, faultless cooking. Steak perfect, and liver and bacon from the Specials menu was melt in the mouth quality. Staff clearly well trained and coped very efficiently on a busy Saturday night. Breakfast lived up to expectations as well. Overall a superbly run establishment which should be proud of their efforts. Location for A1 and expansive car park also on the long list of positives. Look forward to staying again.

A joy to stay here we go whenever we are passing for a break away. Food fantastic and decorated bedrooms very tastefully designed. The owner has great taste. Also if you like horse racing this is the place for you a lot of the rooms are racing inspired. Even if you don’t like racing it’s still beautiful. Staff always have a smile and so polite. One of my favourites and I stay in a lot of places and review a lots of places. So it says a lot. Owner needs to think about purchasing The White Swan at Thornton le Clay near Castle Howard . It would be perfect for them. It’s also in a big horse racing area. And so close to York or The Coast or Castle Howard. Could turn it into something very special with all the grounds it has.
